Our Local Newspaper Featured KenMar Photography — A Look Back at Our 65th Anniversary
There’s a line in an old Jackson Browne song that goes: “…and I know my life would look all right if I could see it on the silver screen.”
“…or at least in newsprint.”
Well — for our 65th business anniversary, that actually happened.
The Appleton Post‑Crescent wrote a feature story about KenMar Photography, and they even sent a photographer to photograph a photographer photographing. At the time, I was creating senior portraits for Josephine Bartlein — and a few of her images ended up woven into the article.
Here are some of the portraits we created that day, all photographed right here at KenMar’s private, professionally landscaped photo park and in the largest camera room in the Fox Cities:

It was one of those sessions where everything just clicked — the light, the energy, the creativity — and having a newspaper photographer documenting the process added a fun twist.

A Little Backstory from the Article
If you’ve ever seen a man with long blond hair riding a moped like he’s late for his own birthday party… that was me. And on my 65th birthday, a police officer actually pulled me over because I was “driving my moped like I’d stolen it.”
Fair enough.
But the truth is: neither the business nor the man has any intention of slowing down.
KenMar Photography was started by my parents — Ken and Margaret — around the time I was born. What began as a small portrait studio has grown into a two‑acre private photo park, a full indoor camera room, and a place where thousands of families and seniors have trusted us with their most meaningful moments.
The Post‑Crescent called me “one of the more colorful photographers in the Fox Cities,” and I’ll take that as a compliment.
We’ve also been honored with the Best of the Valley award every year since 2007 — more than any other professional photo studio in the Fox River Valley combined.
Sixty‑five years was a milestone worth celebrating. And now, as we continue forward, the energy, creativity, and joy of photographing people at their best is still what keeps me going.
