Photographing High School Senior Boys

A lot of senior boys pretend they don’t want their pictures taken. I’ve photographed enough of them to know that’s rarely the whole story.

This is an example of the predictable consistency of quality portraits created at KenMar Photography Inc.

Most boys aren’t avoiding the camera — they’re avoiding the attention. They’re stepping into a moment that asks them to be seen, really seen, at a time in life when they’re still figuring out who they are.

And that can feel big.

But here’s what I’ve learned in 40+ years of photographing young men:

When a boy feels comfortable, he shines. When he shines, he shows confidence he didn’t know he had. And when he sees that confidence reflected back at him, something shifts.

Some boys walk in thinking senior pictures are unnecessary. But what they’re really unsure about is the idea that these images might reveal something powerful — their potential.

And that’s exactly what a great portrait does.

I don’t “take pictures.” I reveal confidence. I help young men see the strength, character, and possibility that everyone else already sees in them — especially their moms.

Your son doesn’t need to pose. He doesn’t need to act. He just needs to show up, and I’ll guide the rest.

Because every young man deserves a portrait that shows who he is becoming.

If your son is graduating next year, this summer is the time to book. May and June are ideal — August fills fast, and September light disappears quickly after school.
